Industries Supplied

Trusted Across Industries
Alpro has been supplying a vast number of industries for decades. From defence castings to sea water control valves, turbine blades, large vac-form tooling; there are few industries that Alpro has not supplied.
Alpro has the facilities to produce a wide variety of castings, so we make full of use of the state-of-art sand mixers and the skills and knowledge of the cast metal engineers.
Why just make engineering castings when you have the ability to also make balcony railings for a £10 million stately home? In no particular order is a list of the type of work we will gladly take on.

VAST SELECTION OF
ENGINEERING
Alpro has proudly made hundreds-of-thousands of engineering castings since it's inception in 1937.
We have the facilities to make complex valves, bearing housings, gearbox housings, water control systems, high conductive electrical connectors and switches.
The typical type of work made each day in the foundry is motor casings, turbine blades, manifolds, couplings, exhausts for heat exchanger systems and heat sinks for various types of equipment that needs to absorb and dissipate heat. So, as you can see, the type of work is extremely varied.

HIGH INTEGRITY
DEFENCE
The demand for defence castings has always been present. Its not a new phenomena but demand has increased in recent years.
Alpro made defence castings throughout the Second World War and still to this day makes parts for military vehicles, transport systems, load bearing brackets and a whole range of military specific engineering castings.
This high integrity casting work can be fully certified with spectrometer chemical analysis, tensile & elongation data , x-ray imaging and ultrasound test certification.

STUNNING
ARCHITECTURAL
Alpro has produced some stunning architectural metal work over the years.
The foundry has made castings for some very prestigious projects and customers. Some of the work has been for Grade I listed buildings, designer apartments in central London and important conservation areas.

The foundry can make railings, finials, queen posts, back stays and even full balcony panels cast in one section. We have the moulding boxes and the room to make anything from small, 10'x10' moulds for 'fleur de lis' finials, through to 8ft x 4ft moulds for decorative balconies and gates that emulate the ornate scrolls of wrought iron but at a fraction of the weight.

CERTIFIED
AUTOMOTIVE
The foundry has always produced automotive castings for prototype development, companies building small volumes of race cars or vintage, restoration, engine parts.
There is a steady influx of orders, for these types of castings, each month. Its common to receive pattern equipment from someone wanting a steering column, a cylinder head or oil sump.

Very high volume casting production is not something the foundry could cope with, (1000's each month) but we are more than capable of producing 100's of castings each month.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
ENERGY
Castings for the energy sector have been a part of Alpro's order book for many years.
The foundry produces high conductivity connectors for various energy applications, wind turbine blades for small commercial wind generation systems and even plug-in charging points for electric vehicles.

CERTIFIED
STRUCTURAL
Structural components require high strength, certification and high casting integrity.
As an ISO9001 Accredited foundry we can produce these types of castings for any structure. The foundry has made thousands of brackets and connectors for structures across the UK.
LM25 is a typical grade used for structural nodes and façade brackets. In some instances the higher tensile grade A356 is used and in exceptional circumstances, A357. It has:
-
Higher strength and hardness
-
Better fatigue performance
-
Suitable for highly loaded structural components

CERTIFIED
MARINE
Castings for marine applications can vary greatly. From sacrificial anodes to high tensile brackets and pulleys through to harbour wall hand rail posts and panels for piers, Alpro has the facilities to make most castings in this sector.
These castings often fall under the remit of ISO9001 Accredition. If there's a requirement for any marine-based castings in aluminium or zinc, get in touch.
LM6 is a great alloy for marine environments, and for applications requiring higher load strengths, A357 is a superior alloy. We can offer parts with:
-
High levels of corrosion resistence
-
High load strength requirements
-
Traceable parts with certification.

CERTIFIED
AGRICULTURAL
Aluminium is having an increased presence in the field of agriculture. No pun intended.
'Light-weighting' is a key consideration in this industry. Some components that were traditionally ductile iron are being swapped for high tensile aluminium. As an ISO9001 Accredited foundry we can produce castings to meet agricultural requirements.
Anodised, heat treated aluminium components are able to replace some ferrous components. If you have an enquiry and would like more information, get in touch.

DIE CASTING
ZINC
ZN21 zinc alloy has been cast at Alpro for decades.
ZN21 is a high zinc-aluminium alloy that produces excellent dimensional accuracy and corrosion resistance. For years Alpro has cast parts such as:
-
Automotive hardware (brackets, housings, clips)
-
Electrical connectors and components
-
Lock and security hardware
-
Small mechanical components
-
Consumer product housings
-
Precision fittings

CASTINGS FOR
RAIN WATER
The die casting department produces large numbers of rain water castings in LM6.
Alpro manufacturers a large number of rain water guttering systems. Traditionally they were made in high phosphorous cast iron but these corroded and fractured very easily so as time progressed, aluminium replaced the majority of rain water guttering. For more details, Contact Us.
