PRECISION

PATTERN MAKING

For years, the management team has not only supplied the castings but handled the design of the pattern equipment.

Patterns have to match the foundries facilities and must have the correct design considerations - machining allowance, running systems, metal feed requirements, compact or loose pattern, model board, wood or polystyrene?!

So often, the foundry is best placed to handle this part of the casting supply process when new tooling is required.

MACHINING

Machining is another service we can provide through long-standing relationships with trusted machining centres.

Some machining jobs are quite simple and just require skimming with some drilled and tapped holes but more often, the machining can be complex. Having the foundry involved can be extremely useful, especially if the machining allowance requires adjustment or advice is needed on complex core assembly.

SERVICE

PRESSURE TESTING

Alpro has been providing pressure testing certification for many years.

The inspection/ despatch area of the foundry has it's own pressure testing rig for routine parts that must pass pressure testing before despatch. Engine sumps, valve bodies are just some of the components we pressure test routinely.

SPECIALIST

COATINGS

Aluminium castings are frequently supplied anodised or powder coated.

Believe it or not, aluminium oxidises rapidly. It appears to be stable in the as-cast condition because it instantly develops a film of aluminium oxide which acts as a barrier just a few microns thick but in harsh conditions, aluminium requires a robust protective film otherwise, the oxidation spreads and chalky white patches of aluminium oxide start to develop.

If you want this process handled by Alpro, feel free to get in touch and ask about options and get a quote.

MIRROR

POLISHING

Mirror polishing is a service that's offered on all aluminium casting and something supplied on a regular basis.

The secret to great polishing is a great casting with ZERO imperfections within the metallic structure. Polishing is very unforgiving for sub standard castings. Alpro has a high degree of success in the production of mirror finished aluminium castings. For more information on polishing options, get in touch

CHEMICAL

IMPREGNATION

There are lots of instances where the customer will require impregnation. This tends to be for pressurised castings carrying fluids.

This specialist treatment is done by cleaning the castings through a rigorous process. After chemical or ultrasonic cleaning, the castings are placed into a vacuum treatment chamber and highly penetrating acrylic resin fills microscopic voids permanently sealing them.

REPAIRS

TIG WELDING

Aluminium castings can, very infrequently, have minor imperfections, especially from the sand cast process and we have the expertise to weld repair aluminium castings on that are non critical.

Welding can also be a useful tool when salvaging non-critical parts (by that we mean, non load bearing) so for a simple blustrade or electrical housing cover, the TIG weld process is extremely useful. Sometimes, TIG Welding is part of a casting assembly so this is available in-house.
