FOUNDRY ORIGINS

Seen in this aerial photograph of West Bromwich from the 1940's, West Bromwich
had a huge manufacturing sector and the work force lived in the nearby rows of
terraced houses. The commute was either walk or bicycle! There were hundreds of
foundries in the West Midlands and Alpro was one of them. Whereas, the majority
of them have closed over the years, Alpro has not - and this is significant.

Established in 1937 as a family-owned business, Aluminium Products was
founded by Mr Prosser, Mr Ambrose and Mr Simcox, first setting up the business in Hill
Top, West Bromwich and produced castings throughout the Second World War and
provided essential components for domestic and military needs. It quickly out grew
the original site and in 1945 moved up the road to its current location on Haines
Street, West Bromwich
The foundry established itself as a traditional greensand and die casting foundry
producing predominantly engineering and architectural castings for many decades.
Over the years ownership has transferred through family members and today
remains in joint co-ownership with original founder Mr Prosser
Gina Steventon who joined Alpro straight from leaving school. She quickly became a
valued asset in the day-to-day functioning of the company and in 2014 her efforts
were officially recognised and she was made Managing Director and still is to the
present day.

The passion, time and commitment that's been invested by all previous and
current owners has provided secure foundations for all of the people it's
employed and equally, the dedication of those skilled employees means that
Alpro is still going strong today and this is a huge achievement.
